Thelma Ankrom Scholarship Established

To the Ayden Christian Church:

It is my desire to establish a living memorial to my late wife, Thelma Ankrom, who dearly loved the Ayden Christian Church. To that end I have given an endowment to be added to the memorial gifts given by members of the Ayden Church, and used to establish the Thelma Ankrom Education Scholarship. This can be awarded annually to a person pursuing a collegiate program of education, or who is upgrading in a continuing educational program.

I request that the recipient be a member of the Ayden Christian Church, and who has been actively involved in and participating in the programs and ministries of the church. Those who seek the award should make an application, in writing, to the scholarship committee.

This award can be made on the Sunday closest to May 30 of each year in commemoration of Miss Thelma’s birthday, or at a time commensurate with the program of other awards being made by the church.

Should Ayden Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) cease to exist, I desire that these funds be given to the Christian Church in North Carolina to be used for their statewide scholarship program.

Upcoming Youth Activities

December 11th – Pancake Breakfast

7:45am- 8:45am (prior to Turning Point Service in Family Life Center). All money raised will be given to purchase food for the Angel Tree families. Volunteers are needed and should arrive at the Family Life Center at 7:00 am to help prepare for the breakfast.

December 17th – Nursing Home Visit

Bring gifts made during ACC VBS to nursing home. Meet outside Beland Hall at 12:00 noon if you would like to enjoy lunch together. Otherwise, meet at Ayden Court (formerly Britthaven) at 1:30 p.m.

December 18th – Christmas Skit

A short skit, “The Christmas Guest,” will be performed by some of the ACC Youth during both worship services.

December 18th- Christmas Party in the ACC nursery during Turning Point Service. All little ones in the nursery that day are asked to bring one wrapped gift that will be given to the Ronald McDonald House.

Our congratulations and best wishes to Brittany McGrath and Josh Richardson who were married here on October 8, 2011. Josh & Brittany reside at 4381 Juanita Avenue, Ayden.

Jim Oakley had a brief stay at PCMH, but is now at home with home health assistance & physical therapy

Congratulations to Marty Stancil on her retirement from Pitt County Schools on October 31.

We rejoice with Ross & Elizabeth Stancil Gunst at the birth of their first child, a son, Ethan Thomas Gunst, born November 7, 8:16 p.m. Ethan weighed 6 lbs, 15.6 oz. at birth and was 19 inches long. The Gunst family recently moved to Wilson. Their address is 3310 Berkshire Drive, Wilson NC 27896. Tommy & Marty Stancil are proud grandparents.

Our congratulations also to J.C. Colucci for making straight A’s this first semester, and for being named “Student of the Week” at AGHS recently.
